In the latest court trials news, the Red Hot Chili Peppers recently filed papers within the LA area courts to sue Showtime Networks for trademark infringement. The problem started after the Showtime series "Californication" was created and aired. As any Red Hot Chili Pepper fans know, "Californication" is the name of their smash album and single. It is almost a term used interchangeably when talking about the California based band.
The papers were filed yesterday and within them it states that the band is claiming unfair competition, diluting the value of the name and they want to be compensation for this loss. They also want profits the Showtime series has already made. Look for this story under the latest court trials at courttv.com. Showtime has not responded to the suit as of yet. I understand where the band is coming from but do not think this series will shine a negative light on their 1999 album and song title. If anything it will spark the memory of the smash hit album.
