I've always been a fan of reality TV since my childhood. After all, I watched Real World during my youth- or tried to when my parents weren't around.

Later, there was this major boom in reality TV popularity almost about ten years ago with Survivor. At the time, I believed that Survivor was just going to be the only reality TV show and then the Survivor craze would be over. I mean, I thought that television shows with actors were much more entertaining than some crappy taped reality show.

However, I was completely wrong. Since then, the list of reality TV shows has grown. But the facts about reality television have gotten me skeptical about the authenticity of what I'm watching. Here are some annoying facts about reality television:

  • Reality television is staged. Some people have debated whether shows like Survivor have been staged. I definitely accept this information as one of those facts about reality television.
  • Reality television is scripted. Some people claim that shows like The Hills is actually scripted. I wouldn't be surprised.
  • Some reality television has gotten so popular that those who sign up are only doing it for sheer publicity. Dancing with the Stars is an example. The show seemed to lose its excitement when stars seemed to start signing up just for the publicity. I mean, come on- Adam Carolla? Give me a break!
  • Reality television makes pseudo stars. This is one of those annoying facts about reality television. They've got these annoying "celebrities" who are capitalizing on their 15-minute of fame.
