Reality TV popularity was given a real boost in the last year because of the writer's strike. Stuck with the need for filling airtime but unable to commission new scripts for its existing shows, all three of the major networks expanded their list of reality TV shows, adding new ones. But will reality TV popularity continue now that viewers have other choices. Personally, I'm not a big fan of reality shows. About the only ones that I watch with any regularity are American Idol and some of the cooking shows. If you go down the list of reality TV shows, including shows like Judge Judy, Dr. Phil, Nanny 911 and others, it would be accurate to say that I really loathe these shows, from their figureheads like Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown and especially the pompous and adulterous Dr. Phil. to the obnoxious pinheads who are so hungry for attention that they go on one of the list of reality TV shows and publicly abase themselves. I just find it revolting, but I guess I'm in the minority as reality TV popularity seems to be maintaining at a steady rate. But can it continue for another decade or more?
