The list of reality TV shows is so extensive that it would take me the rest of the day to discuss them all here. It is little wonder there are so many shows when you consider that reality TV popularity has steadily increased over the last ten years or so and shows no signs of declining any time soon.
There are several reasons for reality TV popularity. However, I suspect the main reason that so many of us like watching reality TV is that we enjoy watching others embarrass themselves in front of millions of people. Take American Idol for example. I’ve watched American Idol in the past and I admit to enjoying it. However, I stopped watching the show when I realized why I liked it so much. We like American Idol because it’s fun to watch Simon Cowell shred the egos of tone deaf people who imagine that they are actually great singers. When you think about it, being entertained by the humiliation of another is actually rather cruel. The essential reason for reality TV popularity says a lot about the true nature of human beings.
